Back To Colour
for those Afro and Caribbean women who refuse to see us.
Seeking more
shade. This heat wave
oozes hues
of solidarity. Glistening
Afro and Caribbean
women accept intolerable
volatile temperatures. They,
or should I say -
we (who are invisible
to them?) share acceptance
of fluctuation, tides,
moon cycles,
the coming and going
of nations......leaders
failed. Hope.
Triumph, I understand
these things: like food
in the mouth, roof top
over bed; babies; being
inside friendly arms -
regardless of knowing
heat’s colour. We hold.
